    The Third Man

A goodwill visit to the tourist friendly Samjung Islands provides a chance for shore leave for some of the Hammersley crew, but the R & R soon involves more rescue than resting.

Characters

  • Bosun Dylan Mulholland

    Conrad Coleby

Petty Officer Bosun Dylan Mulholland is called “Dutchy.”  With his dark good looks and rugged features, this 34-year-old chunk of Aussie manhood is obviously not Dutch, but he cops the moniker thanks to his surname.  Still, there is something austere and remote about him – at least, in Kate’s opinion.  He seems to treat her with a diffidence bordering on Teutonic arrogance.  But to the rest of the crew, Dutchy is as down-home, salt of the earth, regular good guy as you could ever want to meet.  A hit with everyone, particularly Bird who develops a massive crush on him, Dutchy is friendly, charming, confident with women, charismatic, and gregarious.

That is, he’s friendly and gregarious with everyone other than Kate.  The oddly formal manner with which he treats the X.O. is a constant source of bemusement and frustration for her.

    What is this guy’s problem?

  • Jessica Bird

    Daniuelle Horvat

Jessica, or ‘Biiird’, as she’s called by the crew of Hammersley, is seventeen years old and, having finished high school just four months ago, decided rather than go straight on to uni, to sign up for a  ‘gap’ year on a Navy patrol boat out of Cairns.

It’s a long way north and a big change from a comfortable life in Melbourne but this bright and energetic teenager is looking forward to having a break from study, earning real bucks and getting away for some adventure in the tropics.  Who knows, if things work out, she may even ditch her dream of being a paramedic and become a Navy medic instead.  So she says.  And all of that is true.   It’s just not the full story…

  • Mike Flynn

    Ian Stenlake

The acting bug bit Ian Stenlake when he was cast as an extra on Godfather 3, while holidaying in Rome.  Ian has since developed a reputation as one of Australia’s most diverse actors, having worked in television, theatre and film since graduating from NIDA in 1996.

Ian’s television credits include the ABC-TV series Children’s Hospital and Murder Call, as well as the starring role of Constable Oscar Stone in Stingers.

Ian has appeared in a variety of theatrical productions including a one-off Royal Shakespeare Company production of Music Hall.  Ian is equally at home in musicals such as Cabaret, with Lisa McCune, Oklahoma!, High Society and  The Pajama Game. His performance in They’re Playing Our Song won him the Green Room Award for Best Male Lead.

In 2007 Ian starred in Sleeping Beauty for the Malthouse Theatre Company where he thrashed out David Bowie songs alongside Renee Geyer in a modern reworking of the classic story.

  • Kate McGregor

    Lisa McCune

Lisa McCune is one of Australia’s most popular and successful television and theatre actors, working constantly and earning an impressive collection of awards celebrating her performances, including four Gold Logies for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television.

As a teenager in Perth, Lisa developed her love of acting by appearing in various repertory group plays and studying music and classical singing in high school before auditioning and being accepted into the acting course at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).

After graduating from WAAPA in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Lisa moved to Melbourne where she toured rural schools with the play Working Out, appeared in a few television pilots and then accepted the role of Maggie Doyle in a pilot for a new Police drama, Blue Heelers.

Blue Heelers went on to become one of the most popular programs on Australian television and Lisa became a household name. This created a hectic schedule for Lisa, but during her years as Maggie Doyle she still managed to appear in several stage plays/musicals and she also played the lead role of Mary in the Seven Network mini-series, The Potato Factory, based on Bryce Courtenay’s novel.
