Characters

  • Michelle Letourneau

    Libby Tanner

    Character
A 38 year old dynamo, Michelle was one of the original Rescue officers. Her experience and professionalism is second to none – she’s been there and knows what the others are going through. However, she can also be hot-headed and sometimes says things that bring her into conflict with the powers that be. While her job is all-consuming, she’s promised herself she’ll find more time for herself this year. She’s currently involved with Ian Johnson – a police detective with a reputation. Vince doesn’t approve of her liaison which causes a few problems in their working relationship.

    Actor
Libby Tanner is one of Australia’s most popular television actors as evidenced by her long list of credits. From her first ongoing television role as the controversial Zoe in Pacific Drive to the much loved Bronwyn ‘Bron’ Craig in All Saints, Libby received a string of Logie nominations and awards including Most Outstanding Actress Logie (nom) in 2001, a Silver Logie Award for Most Outstanding Actress in 2002 and Most Popular Actress Award in 2003. Her numerous guest roles for television include The Man From Snowy River, Blue Heelers, Stingers, Black Jack, At The Gates, Scorched and Rush.

  • Vince Marchello

    Peter Phelps

    Character
At 49, Vince has been with Rescue almost since its inception. He trained Michelle and they had a brief affair when she was in her early twenties. He sometimes thinks about reigniting the passion, but not while they still work together (and not while she’s with Detective Johnson). He’s been married three times and has teenage kids. A charming larrikin, Vince has friends and acquaintances everywhere – police, fire, football, club owners, racing identities – they all seem to know Vince. As a consequence he can get things done that others might find impossible. He likes to think of himself as a man of taste, but he nonetheless enjoys sport and having a BBQ.

    Actor
Peter Phelps is one of Australia’s best-known actors and has appeared in dozens of film, television and theatre productions. He won an AFI Television Best Actor Award in an episode of GP and was rewarded for his work on Stingers with two Silver Logie nominations, and won the coveted award in 2002. Peter was also a series regular on Fire, The Flying Doctors and Baywatch. His extensive guest credits include Police Rescue, Heartbreak High, A Country Practice, Rafferty’s Rules, and Water Rats. He has also directed episodes of All Saints, and Home & Away.

  • Dean Gallagher

    Les Hill

    Character
As the eldest son Dean has always assumed the leader role. Bright, practical, athletic, he’s inherited his father’s trait of keeping his own counsel. That’s about the only thing they have in common, and when Dean first followed Shane into the building game, all they did was argue. In fact their stoushes are legendary. Eventually Dean hung up his circular saw and enlisted in the army, serving in Afghanistan in his late twenties. Realising he preferred to save lives than take them, he left the army when his tour was up and joined the ambulance service. Now at 34 he’s one of the most experienced paramedics and Rescue operators. He’s charming, good-looking, a womaniser. He’d like to meet someone to share his life with, but he’s still not ready to commit.

    Actor
Les Hill has been studying drama since he was 12, and in his mid-teens secured his first role playing Blake Dean in Home & Away. Since then, his career has propelled him into high profile and dramatic roles, including his most recent, the role of Underworld figure Jason Moran in the hit series Underbelly. Other television credits include Rogue Nation, Scorched and The Pacific, and guest appearances on Wildside, Water Rats, Pacific Drive, G.P. and A Country Practice. In film, he has appeared in, The Truth About Men, Flirting (which co-starred Nicole Kidman); Thank God He Met Lizzie and the adventure telemovie Pirates Island.

  • Chase Gallagher

    Andrew Lees

    Character
The younger brother, Chase has always been an optimist, a dare-devil, a true romantic. His sunny disposition makes him well-liked, especially to his dad, Shane, who although he never plays favourite, gets on with Chase the best. When Dean joined the ambulance service, Chase followed and despite the long hours and average pay, he couldn’t be happier with his choice of career. In fact he loves his job more than anyone he knows. He takes people at face value, and while not entirely gullible, is prone to get involved when he really shouldn’t. His heart is easily broken.

    Actor
Andrew graduated from NIDA in 2007 and has a growing list of Australian theatre and screen credits. In 2007 he was cast in the mini-series The Pacific and played the role of Robert Oswalt.
He has also appeared in City Homicide and Home & Away, and has just finished filming the third series of H20: Just Add Water, where he played the role of Ryan. His theatre credits include Poster Girl and The Silver Donkey, and various NIDA productions including The Game Of Love, Chance, Sweet Charity and Romeo and Juliet. In film, he played the role of Mark in Offside a short film directed by Richard Vilensky.

  • Lara Knight

    Gigi Edgley

    Character
An only child, Lara did extra-curricular activities from an early age. Dancing, singing, gymnastics – proficient in all, but exceptional in the latter, she competed at an advanced level until her hormones kicked in and she outgrew the beam. A princess in looks and bearing, she brings none of that to her work where she’s the first to volunteer even for the most difficult challenges. Without siblings herself, she loves the “family” life of the station, even if she does keep her things name-tagged. Feeling the need to be “safe”, Lara has been engaged to a reliable guy, Hamish, for almost 12 months. Somehow a wedding date remains elusive.

    Actor
Gigi graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Queensland University, and since then has carved an enviable acting career with a long list of credits. Gigi stole the hearts of sci-fi enthusiasts with her ongoing role as Chiana on Farscape.
