This hard-hitting and emotional series chronicles the life and crimes of the Special Victims Unit of the New York City Police Department, an elite squad of detectives who investigate sexually based crimes. Dedicated Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), a seasoned veteran of the unit who has seen it all, heads up the department with empathy and professionalism, all the while dealing with her difficult past.

Scorched Earth

As Coach Ray Masters (Dan Lauria) is inducted to the Metro Basketball Hall of Fame by former students Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh, an ex-player accuses the coach of sexually abusing him as a child. Detective Nick Amaro (Danny Pino) transfers into the SVU squad and is thrown on to the case. The detectives interview former players but no one admits to abuse, forcing Benson and Fin to dig deeper into Coach Ray’s most successful player, basketball star Prince Miller (Mehcad Brooks) and his manager/cousin (guest star Heavy D.) When a pregnant thirteen-year-old girl refuses to identify her baby’s father, Benson and the SVU squad work to determine if she was raped. Their investigation leads to several men in her life including Tripp Raines, the teenage son of high-profile political couple Andrew and Kathleen Raines (Kyle MacLachlan and guest star Paige Turco) and Arturo Rivera, the son of the Raines’ housekeeper (guest star Judy Reyes). The detectives uncover much more than they bargained for when a Raines family secret is revealed and a family member goes missing. A dancer is followed home and raped by a man with a distinctive tattoo and the details of the attack remind Rollins of a serial rapist she was tracking back home. The detectives arrest Gabriel Thomas (Knight), a family man who maintains his innocence, but his description and DNA match this assault and the string of rapes across multiple states that Rollins had been investigating. Although the evidence supports the arrest, the more Detectives Benson and Amaro dig into Thomas' past, the more they begin to believe his story. A young woman visiting from Buffalo claims that her car was stolen outside a Manhattan convenience store with her baby still buckled in the backseat. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Amaro (Danny Pino) get as much information as they can from the anxious mother and her boyfriend at the police station, while Fin (Ice-T) and Rollins (Kelli Giddish) track their path from Buffalo for clues. Russian Brides
When a young woman is found brutally murdered, the SVU detectives use her distinctive tattoos to identify her as a recently engaged Russian mail-order bride (guest star Izabella Miko). Upon questioning her distraught fiancé (guest star Timothy Busfield), they learn that she was kidnapped and held for ransom the night of their engagement party. While the detectives follow the money to a deadly blackmail scam run by the Russian Mafia, Captain Cragen (Dann Florek) goes undercover as a sad and lonely suitor to lure out a killer.

Educated Guess
A man in custody (David Gelles) at a mental hospital claims to have witnessed a rape in a break room. Despite the witness' shaky credibility the SVU begins an investigation, but the alleged victim, Gia Eskas (Natasha Lyonne), denies being assaulted. Detectives Benson and Rollins struggle to piece together what really happened to this young woman, especially when her aunt (Carrie Preston) and mother say Gia has been repeatedly institutionalized, and has cried rape in the past.

Lost Traveller
Nico Grey (Cameron Ocasio), a Romani child, disappears on his way home from school. Benson and Amaro interview the distraught parents, who are distrustful of the police. The initial investigation leads Fin and Rollins to the powerful leader of the Romani community (Mark Margolis), but he denies any involvement. The family remains hopeful their boy will be found, especially when they discover his cell phone is still active. With the help TARU tech Leo Gerber (Gilbert Gottfried) and a meddling newspaper reporter with a powerful defense attorney (Ron Rifkin), the detectives narrow the perpetrators to a mentally challenged neighbor named Marc Rajic (Michael Barra), throwing the tight-knit Romani community into turmoil.

Spiraling Down
A military colleague of Detective Amaro's wife (Laura Benanti) reports his 14-year-old daughter (Kay Panabaker) missing. The detectives find the girl working as a prostitute under a possessive pimp. They quickly set up a sting operation to entrap Johns on rape charges with a minor, and arrest aging pro quarterback Jake Stanton (Treat Williams). Detective Benson and ADA Cabot seek to make an example out of the football legend, but the case is thrown into chaos with the return of defense attorney Bayard Ellis (Andre Braugher), who questions Stanton's mental capacity after years of injuries on the field.

Theatre Tricks
An actress named Meghan (Jenn Proske) in an interactive theater production is raped on stage, while the audience believes it to be part of the show. The SVU detectives hit a dead end in their investigation when they learn the show's passionate director (Fisher Stevens) gave the audience, including the assailant, masks to wear during the performance. Detectives Rollins and Tutuola track down an obsessed fan (Adam Driver) of the young actress who recorded the assault while stalking her, which leads Detectives Benson and Amaro to a respected divorce court judge, Gerald Crane (Kevin Pollak). With the judge's reputation on the line, the SVU squad explores the underbelly of the New York theater world to uncover who really orchestrated the public attack.

Official Story
William Rand (John Doman), a powerful CEO of a private military contractor is confronted by Occupy Wall Street protesters and later found drugged and sexually assaulted in a park. Detectives Benson and Amaro begin their investigation but find the victim unwilling to cooperate. As the SVU squad and the district attorney's office explore the motives behind the attack, a much larger crime and conspiracy in Iraq is unveiled. Meanwhile Detective Benson begins to develop feelings for new Executive Assistant District Attorney David Haden (Harry Connick, Jr.).

Father's Shadow
An aspiring actress is found unconscious in Central Park with drugs in her system and evidence of sexual trauma. Detectives Benson and Amaro pay a visit to reality show producer Fred Sandow (Michael McKean) for whom she had auditioned just before the attack, and stop him from assaulting another actress (Miranda Lambert) on the casting couch. The detectives arrest the producer, but the situation turns dangerous when his distraught son Eddie (Cameron Monaghan) takes drastic action in order to get his father out of jail. Meanwhile, Benson and Executive ADA David Haden (Harry Connick, Jr.) grow closer.

Danny Pino joins the cast of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for its 13th season as Detective Nick Amaro.
Pino is a versatile actor who has enjoyed success in film, theatre and television. Most recently, he can be seen in the thriller The Exodus of Charlie Wright opposite Aidan Quinn and Andy Garcia and The Burning Plain, an ensemble drama featuring Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger.
Pino has portrayed a wide range of characters from the sociopath Armadillo Quintero on the acclaimed series The Shield, a Wyoming horse-wrangler in the feature film Flicka, to the iconic Desi Arnaz in Lucy, a bio-pic focusing on the tumultuous lives of Lucille Ball and Arnaz. He recently wrapped production on his 7th season as the laconic Detective Scotty Valens on the Warner Brothers’ series Cold Case.
Pino has starred in the theatrical productions Up For Grabs opposite Madonna on London’s West End, opposite Billy Crudup in the New York Shakespeare Festival’s production of Measure For Measure, directed by Mary Zimmerman, and The Winters Tale, directed by Brian Kulick.
Pino was born and raised in Miami. He attended New York University’s Tisch Graduate Acting Program where he earned an M.F.A.

Det. Amanda Rollins
Kelli Giddish, most recently seen in a multi-episode arc on the Emmy and Golden Globe recognized series The Good Wife, has joined the upcoming season of NBC’s long-running, critically acclaimed series Law & Order: SVU as Detective Amanda Rollins.
Born and raised in Cumming, Ga., Giddish began acting at an early age and was a staple in her high school's theatre department. Additionally, Giddish was an all-star athlete and member of the school’s championship winning softball team. Giddish attended the University of Evansville in Indiana and graduated with a degree in performance arts.
Upon her move to New York, Giddish quickly gained work as an actress appearing in Bobbi Boland, opposite Farrah Fawcett, and in her self-written one-woman show Dropsy. In 2005, she made her small screen debut on All My Children. During this time, she starred in the critically acclaimed online series The Burg and made a guest appearance on Law & Order: SVU. Following her departure from All My Children later that year, she made a guest appearance on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, had a recurring role on Damages and appeared in Boaz Yakin's feature film Death in Love opposite Josh Lucas and Jaqueline Bissett.
Most recently, Giddish starred as the lead in Chase (produced by Jerry Bruckheimer) and had memorable guest appearances on Life on Mars and Without a Trace.
Giddish currently divides her time between New York and Los Angeles.

Olivia Benson
Mariska Hargitay returns for her fifth season playing Olivia Benson, an ambitious and emotionally vulnerable detective on Wolf Films/Universal Network Television’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. “As a woman, it’s gratifying to play a part that’s a multilayered challenge. Olivia is not only a competent, street-smart cop; she’s an empathetic woman who can respond emotionally to victims of terrible crimes without compromising her professionalism.”
Hargitay is known to millions of viewers for her recurring role on ER as Dr. Greene’s (Anthony Edwards) girlfriend Cynthia Hooper in the 1997-98 season of the top-rated show in the U.S. Hargitay also gained notice as a cast regular in the sitcom Can’t Hurry Love with Nancy McKeon and Louis Mandylor.
Her film credits include the thriller Lake Placid written by David E. Kelley and starring Bridget Fonda; the critically-acclaimed Leaving Las Vegas, David Lynch’s Hotel Room and Bob Fosse’s Star 80. Hargitay recently appeared in the Michael Rymer film, Perfume.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Hargitay is the youngest daughter of screen legend Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay. She divides her time between New York and Los Angeles. The UCLA graduate speaks Hungarian, French and Italian.

Captain Donald Cragen
Reprising his role as Captain Cragen, Dann Florek returns to the cast of Wolf Films/Universal Network Television’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for his fifth season. Florek played the part for three seasons on Law & Order and in the Law & Order telefilm, Exiled: A Law & Order Movie.
Florek first came to the TV viewing public’s attention for his portrayal of direct marketing whiz Dave Meyer on the Emmy-winning series L.A. Law, a role he reprised in the 2002 NBC telefilm L.A. Law: The Movie. Florek’s additional television credits include guest starring on The Practice, NYPD Blue, Sabrina
the Teenage Witch, Smart Guy, Wings, Roseanne and Ellen. Florek also appeared in the telefilm The Pentagon Wars and the award-winning HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon.
Florek moved to New York where his theater work included A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Strange Snow and Death of a Salesman. Later, he headed west to San Diego where he participated in many La Jolla Playhouse and Old Globe Theater productions, most notably as Teach in American Buffalo, and eventually worked his way to Los Angeles.

John Munch
Richard Belzer reprises his acerbic character Detective John Munch on Wolf Films/Universal Network Television’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit after first portraying Munch on the critically-acclaimed drama series Homicide: Life on the Street for seven seasons. His character transferred from Baltimore to New York to join the crime unit.
The veteran standup comic, actor, talk-show host and author was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Due to his “uncontrollable wit,” Belzer was politely asked to leave every school he ever attended. He first worked as a reporter for the Bridgeport Post and several other newspapers around the country. Thisinterest in journalism is traced directly to his days as a paperboy in his hometown.
Belzer was recently honored by the New York Friars Club and the Toyota Comedy Festival as the honoree of the first ever roast that was open to the public. Comedians and friends on the dais included Roast master Paul Shaffer, Christopher Walken, Danny Aiello, Barry Levinson, Robert Klein, Bill Maher, SVU co-stars Mariska Hargitay, Christopher Meloni, Ice-T, and Dann Florek, and Law & Order’s Jerry

Odafin Tutuola
Versatile actor, musician and performer Ice-T returns to the cast of Wolf Films/Universal Network Television’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for his fourth season in the role of Detective Odafin Tutuola.
Born in New Jersey, Ice-T was an only child whose parents died when he was very young. He became involved in Los Angeles gangs and spent four years in the Army. His first break came when the producers of the movie Breakin’ asked him to rap in the film. From there he went on to become a world renowned, Grammy-winning musician and actor of equal caliber.
Ice-T previously starred in Wolf’s NBC series Players (which he co-created), the NBC telefilm Exiled: A Law & Order Movie, as well as several high profile guest-starring appearances on Wolf’s Fox series New York Undercover. His film credits include New Jack City (opposite Wesley Snipes), Ricochet (with Denzel Washington), 3000 Miles to Graceland (with Kevin Costner), Johnny Mnemonic (with Keanu Reeves), Tank Girl and Walter Hill’s Trespass.

I gave the new series a go, kept an open mind thinking that one character does not make a series. However, it seems that Stabler was central to the way the series worked. I don't think that the series has any kind of direction or cohesion, even the cases baffle me, they don't seem to be the kind of cases that would be taken by SVU. I do not watch it anymore, it does not keep my interest and I don't care about the character or cases. Sad but true, RIP SVU!!
Whilst I agree with most comments that the show has lost something with Chris Meloni leaving, I am going to give it a chance, I think a lot of viewers are being premature with their verdicts.
New characters are not going to bed in immediately, we have to learn their history and what makes them tick. I think the show has got a fresher look to it with the new characters, it is a long time since Benson had another woman on the squad, could introduce conflict/friendship? The show will continue to develop and I for one am looking forward to seeing it.

I love SVU but I cannot keep up with Universal. I am desperate to see S13 but every time I try to watch SVU there is a random episode from S1 to S12.

i'm sorry to say it but i can't watch the newest series of svu (my fav show on earth i might add) but can't get used to watching it without elliot stabler not only is he sex on legs (yum yum yum luv his bum) but the dynamic between elliot and olivia was so amazing and she just can't have that with anyone else (sorry danny you're a great actor but you're not chris) also love olivia (hot hot hot) but she needs to get elliot back please guys i need my show back aswell as the hotest duo on earth (sooo hot they don't even need an introduction luvz ya).

I think is not the same without Stabler the cemistery has gone. Get rid of the new boy he was ok in cold casebut not in SVU, he is to aggresive.

Danny Pino is a great actor and his character in Cold Case was a good match with the rest of that team however I would have to agree with many of the comments made. The loss of Stabler has resulted in a lack of team chemistry; with Bensons character also having been weakened by this development it could be the beginning of the end for the show. Stablers character also provided a "human touch" and "understanding" angle from someone with a wife and young family etc. there was also the impact the job was having on him etc. these elements have all now been lost.

The new characters are okay but the chemistry is not there as it was between Benson and Stabler! Just what has happened to Stabler and is he coming back and if not how has he been written out? I have watched this show from the beginning but sadly due to unforseen circumstances I have had to miss some episodes so do not know what happened to Stabler. Not the same without him though.

I am gutted about stabler just leaving, he didn't even say a proper goodbye to Benson who has been his partner since it began. Not like him at all. Seeing how Stabler was so committed to the SVU, he would not of just rang and said he wasn't comming back. Im not impressed so far with season 13. Hope it will improve but i suppose you do eventually start to run out of story lines.
S13 is terrible. New detectives are awful. Very disappointing. SVU= Benson&Stabler.
Chris Meloni left because they did not agree to pay what he wanted for. Athough I loved all the seasons with Olivia/Stabler. it is easy to see that Olivia does not work anymore in this new set up. I would suggest they keep Det Amaro, Cap Cragen and bring the rest of the cast from Chase to join and take over SVU.

I have just come back from holiday and have caught up with the first episode of series 13 and heard the reason why Elliot has gone, but what is the real reason did he leave or was he pushed?. The show will carry on and one person does not make a show but the partnership between Elliot and Olivia was special and a major part of the show and I do not think it will be ever be quite the same show again as Law and Order and Criminal Intent has never been since their major stars have been replaced.
