Filmed entirely on location in New York, the realistic program looks at crime and justice from a dual perspective. In the first half-hour, Detective Edward Green and his new partner Detective Nina Cassady (Milena Govich) - the series' first female detective - investigate crimes and apprehend suspects under the supervision of their precinct lieutenant, Anita Van Buren. In the second half- hour, the focus shifts to the criminal courts, as Executive Assistant District Attorney Jack McCoy works within a complicated justice system to prosecute the accused

Home Sweet
An eight-year-old girl walking on the Upper East Side with her mother is killed when a townhouse blows up. The owner is Miles Shaffner (Robert Emmet Lunney), who survives but is very upset that there was collateral damage. The cops quickly determine that faulty wiring caused the blast and they are looking at arson.

An anti-Arab video is being shot, ostensibly by white men, and an Arab man is beheaded on camera. The victim, Eric Khalaby, was a talented young lawyer who worked at a fancy Jewish law firm. Diane (Marjan Neshat), his grieving widow, has no idea who would want to kill him.

Public Service Homicide
Carl Mullaly (A.J. Handegard) is found stabbed to death in his Upper West Side apartment when a delivery guy arrives with his dinner. Mullaly was “outed" that night by the program "Hard Focus.” The tabloid show was trapping pedophiles by having staff members pose as young girls online.

A CEO of an armored vest company is gunned down in front of his daughter, and the investigation is tied to the death of a soldier in Iraq whose vest failed.

In Vino Veritas
Two patrolmen pull over a luxury car and the driver, Mitch Carroll (Chevy Chase), is drunk. He is hostile and when the cops ask him to step out of the car, they find him covered in blood. Green (Jesse L. Martin) and Cassady (Milena Govich) are called in and he gets even more belligerent, topping things off with an anti-Semitic tirade.

Milena Govich
Milena Govich joins the esteemed cast of Emmy Award-winning drama Law & Order, for its 17th season.
Govich will portray the series' first female detective, working alongside Detective Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin).
Govich recently starred as Assistant District Attorney Jessica Rossi on the legal drama Conviction. She also gained attention for her recurring role as Candy on the series Rescue Me, starring Denis Leary, and was a previous guest star in an episode of Law & Order.
Govich, a native of Norman, Oklahoma, was the valedictorian of her high school class before she completed a double major in performance and pre-med at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Soon after, she moved to New York and found her first Broadway role as Lulu in the musical
Cabaret (she later essayed the role of the central character of Sally Bowles). Following that, Govich was featured in the limited Broadway run of "The Boys from Syracuse" and then travelled to China where she appeared in a series of rock concerts with the country's top recording artist Fei Xiang.

Jesse L. Martin
Born in Rocky Mountain, Virginia, and raised in Buffalo, New York, Jesse L. Martin returns for his fifth season as the compulsive and passionate Detective Ed Green on TV’s longest-running drama series.
“The great challenge in playing a character like Eddie Green is that he is really complex,” says Martin. “He’s passionate about his work and his life, but he is not without faults.” Martin received critical acclaim for his recurring role on “Ally McBeal” as Ally's boyfriend, Dr. Greg Butters. He also had a memorable guest-starring role as a disenfranchised alien on “The X-Files,” in an episode written and directed by series star David Duchovny.
A New York University graduate and classically trained stage actor, Martin is thrilled to be living and working in New York City where he was an original cast member of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “Rent.” His extensive New York theater credits run the gamut from Shakespeare to musical comedy.

Anita Van Buren on “Law & Order.” Most recently, Merkerson earned a Lucille Lortel Award nomination for her work in the Public Theatre’s production of “F**king A” Merkerson is a native of Detroit, Michigan, who earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Wayne State University.
She has performed on and off-Broadway in productions including the 1990 Pulitzer Prize-winning play “The Piano Lesson,” for which she received a Tony and Drama Desk nomination for Best Actress. She received a 1991 Obie Award for her work in the Young Playwrights Festival’s production of “I’m Not Stupid” and a 1999 Helen Hayes Award for her role “The Old Settler” in Washington, D.C.
Merkerson’s feature-film credits include roles in “Random Hearts” (with Harrison Ford), “Terminator II: Judgment Day,” “Jacob’s Ladder,” “Navy SEALS” and “Loose Cannons” (with Gene Hackman).

Sam Waterston
Acclaimed actor Sam Waterston returns for his tenth year and continues to earn accolades since joining the cast of “Law & Order” as Jack McCoy, a charismatic and tough Executive Assistant D.A., in 1994. He is a six-time Emmy Award nominee (three times for “Law & Order,” and three more for “I’ll Fly Away”) who won the award for hosting the 10-part NBC informational series “Lost Civilizations.” He also received a Golden Globe for “I’ll Fly Away” and earned the 1999 Screen Actors Guild Award for the role of McCoy.
Waterston also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his performance in “The Killing Fields,” and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Most Promising Newcomer for his portrayal of Nick Carraway in “The Great Gatsby.” He has also been nominated for several British Television Awards.
In 2000, Waterston appeared in the Syracuse Stage production of Eugene O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey into Night.” The critically praised production also starred his son, James Waterston (“Another Time,” “The Lady and the Clarinet”), as well as Elizabeth Franz (Tony Award winner for “Death of a Salesman”) and John Slattery (NBC’s “Ed”).
